Móra Ferenc Museum
The Móra Ferenc Museum is located in the heart of Szeged, at the intersection of the river Tisza and the Downtown Bridge, and its glamorous building is a defining part of the cityscape. The institution is an outstanding cultural centre of the region. In addition to its permanent and constantly changing temporary exhibitions, the "Palace of Culture" is home to various research conducted in the fields of archaeology, ethnography, history, numismatics and natural science.
The museum and the Somogyi Library have a common history: the predecessor of the two institutions was founded in 1883, and the neoclassical building was handed over in 1896. The library and the museum were separated in 1950 when the latter took on the name of the former director of the institution, Ferenc Móra.
There were great archaeologists, historians and scientists among the former directors of the museum: János Reizner, István Tömörkény and Ferenc Móra headed the institution.
